Office software is used to edit files associated with data stored on computer network servers such as servers running operating systems such as MS-Windows. For example, Microsoft® Windows® operating systems and Adobe® Acrobat® are among the more popular operating systems and applications available to a user in a data processing network. Another popular and widely used software program is Microsoft® Office®. Office typically combines the functions of word processing (i.e., the creation and editing of text), spreadsheet files (i.e., the creation and editing of numbers and text), presentation (i.e., the creation and editing of images), and graphic design (i.e., the design of graphical objects such as charts, graphs and photos). Other software programs are available; however, these software programs are often much more complex and difficult to use.
Typically, a data processor connected along a network such as a local area network (LAN) includes a server unit and client units. The client unit is also referred to as a user computer or a desktop computer. The server unit may be a server, and the client unit may be a client computer. The server unit and the client units are connected in various manners, and can be configured to receive, transmit, store, and/or retrieve data. Information such as a spreadsheet file or other presentation file is stored on the server unit. This information is then transmitted to the client unit via data communication link, such as a network connection. Upon receipt, a user of the client unit can edit the information. The edited information is then stored on the server unit.
